TRAVEL TIPS

Tours

Denver History Tours. Personalized, guided tours of historic Denver are available, as are tours to select surrounding areas along the Front Range, in buses (for groups only) and on walking tours for a minimum of two people; prices and times vary according to the tour. Guides are knowledgeable locals eager to tailor the tour to individual tastes and interests, and work to accommodate varying fitness levels within a group. Trains, the Old West, and "haunted" Denver are particular specialties. Denver, Colorado. 720/234–7929; www.denverhistorytours.com. From $20.

Denver Microbrew Tour. This guided walking tour in LoDo includes beer sampling at several microbreweries and a comprehensive history of local beer making as well as Denver's history; a swing through Coors Field is also included. The fee covers the samples along the way and a voucher for a full pint, as well. A new tour through the hip arts district RiNo (River North) recently was added and includes cider tastings, too (but not Coors Field). The guides are all beer enthusiasts who thoroughly enjoy sharing beer trivia, and can recommend anything beer-related in Denver. Denver, Colorado. 303/578–9548; www.denvermicrobrewtour.com. From $29.

Gray Line. This company offers the usual expansive and exhaustive coach tours of anything and everything, from shopping in Cherry Creek to visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. Tours last from three to 10 hours, and lunch is sometimes included at a local eatery. Guides run the gamut from informed-to-a-point yet enthusiastic to expert locals. Denver, Colorado. 800/472--9546; 303/289–2841; www.grayline.com. From $35.

My 420 Tours. A handful of cannabis tour companies are addressing the confusion for tourists over where to buy and consume marijuana. My 420 offers one of the cheapest, if not the most polished, options. After meeting in the lobby of a cannabis-friendly hotel that also can be booked for an overnight stay (a vaporizer is delivered to the room for personal use), a group of up to 35 is then escorted in a luxury bus—complete with laser lighting and accompanying music—to a variety of marijuana-related activities. Expect to visit at least two marijuana shops, which offer discounts to the group, as well as a "grow," a facility engaged in actively cultivating marijuana crops, and a local eatery. Depending on the timing, the tour can incorporate local cultural activities, as well. My 420 also offers cannabis cooking classes and will customize a private tour. Denver, Colorado. 855/694--2086; www.my420tours.com. From $129.
