You can check your email or surf the Internet at all public libraries, many cafés and public parks, and most hotels. In addition, all of New York's subway stations are on target to have both Wi-Fi and mobile service by 2017; about 150 stations in Manhattan and Queens currently have it. NYC & Company and Google Maps offer online maps that outline free Wi-Fi hot spots in the New York area; the app WiFi Finder can also help you track down hot spots.
