Hotel room charges in Boston and Cambridge are subject to state and local taxes of up to 14.45%. A sales tax of 7% is added to restaurant and take-out meals, and a sales tax of 6.25% is added to all other goods except nonrestaurant food and clothing valued at less than $175.
